FAQ

What does “nosham” mean?
“Nosham” is a word composed by two other words: “sham” and “no”.
“Sham” from the dictionary : “something false or empty that is purported to be genuine; a spurious imitation”.

What is the connection between the meaning of “sham” and you?
The original purpose was to create a content that differed from any other website, posting stories and concepts to make the masses understand what kind of life they’re living: false, empty and with somebody who wants to tell them it is genuine. I also wanted to post my person on the internet without wearing any mask, being transparent and spontaneous.

Why did you decide to open this website?
a) To extend the power of the “dis-information” that consists in reading beyond the commercial bullshit and subliminal messages.
b) Doing something for waking somebody up.
c) All my friends around the world, relatives and anyone who may care about me, can always know at least where I am located and have a look at my travel pictures…
d) Hoping to get in touch with other people who are living outside the box as me, and perhaps create meaningfu connections or a sort of community for the long run.
e) Being immortal, being remembered forever. Everything I’m writing here will not just disappear as easy as some spoken words to the wind…

What does “ciars” means?
It is a neologism, the basic meaning is “ciao” like “hello” but its advanced meaning was completed by deep mutations and situations in which it was used day by day since many years. Ciars could be a life style, a situation, a greeting, a goodbye, a recognizance, a keyword, a password.

How can you travel so often and for such long time? Are you rich? How can you travel almost without money?
a) I am based in Europe, which means by earning in Euro i am subject to a very favorable exchange rate for the 60% of the countries I travel to.
b) I have knowledge in IT stuff, so I manage to get freelance assignments during my travels (I’m carrying a laptop with me which allows me to work from everywhere).
c) I get free accommodation from friends or people I get to know while traveling, I can beg for food, money and I do hitchhiking to save on transportation.

In how many countries have you been to? May I see the list?
I scored a total of 38 countries: Italy, Vatican City, France, Swiss, Monaco, Spain, U.S.A, Holland, Belgium, Croatia, Slovenia, England, Ireland, South Africa, Mozambique, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Brazil, China, Thailand, Peru, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Macau , Hong Kong, Taiwan, Germany, Indonesia, South Korea, Australia,…more

When did you start traveling?
Well it depends, If I consider that myfamily took me along with them during their trips since I was 3-4 years old, then I could say I’ve been traveling my entire life. I instead set my first real travel date when I went for an adventure disjoined from my parents: they sent me to Ireland to learn English at the age of 16 years old. Later, when I turned 18 I got my first car: one of the best gift I could have ever given to myself: It brought me the freedom and the power to go where, when, how and with whoever I wanted to!

When did you open this website?
I registered the domain on September 2004 and started to work on it during October 2004 (The website was at version 0.10). There was some kind of evolution since then: the first version was a very simple and static htlm while the newer ones (from version 0.50 to 1.50) were based on dynamic web templates using Adobe Dreamweaver. I obviously applied various changes in styles and colors since then. Finally, going towards the web 2.0, I started to feel annoyed by having to deal with broken FTP connections, uploading various files at the same time and having thousands of customizable option  when I, most of the times, only needed a very simple interface to write a quick news. Thus, during the first quarter of 2010 I decided to radically change its structure: it indeed fully became a “blog”. Now based on the WordPress PHP code and a customized PHP/CSS theme, my site is less graphic but quicker for you to read and for me to write.

Do you always travel alone?
Yes, for most of the time, but I do trip with other buddies or backpackers which I meet on my way.

Is Alan Rooster your real name?
Alan is my real name, but Rooster is just an alias instead of Gallicchio (my real surname) which sounds too long and Italian. The first initials of my surname are (galli)cchio that translated = “roosters” so here it came the idea…

What’s your job?
I don’t have a job because I don’t have time for a job, I’m too busy working on my writings, videos , travels, reading, loving, sports and other stuff.

Do you ever miss your country?
I don’t feel I belong to my country, I’m an antipatriotic person, I don’t feel to be part of a group nor of a stupid flag neither of some imaginary border lines. What I could miss is the memories I had at home , but not really the place itself.

Did you write everything about yourself on the website?
Of course not , I can easily say, only about 30% of me is present online, I’m actually writing not much about me. I don’t publish stuff I consider too personal and inappropriate for an online content. I still believe there are certain things that can olny be told face to face.

Do you have any projects for your future?
Yes, besides all the scripts, books and short-films I would love to produce, I am also thinking to open my own business by the seaside, find a life time partner, settle down somewhere and obviously live a more relaxing and perhaps stable lifestyle travel-free.

I have written a comment in one of your articles, but you havent published it ! Why?
Since I intend my site to be internationally accessible, only ENGLISH replies will be considered! I run a dictatorship on my blog, only comments considered appropriate will be published, everything that goes off-topic, strictly personal, senseless or that are somehow irritating the dictator (me), will be treated as spam.
