Other people around the world are working on the same project of surviving on a deserted island for an undetermined period of time. One of them, Mike from U.S, already left during March 2009 for the Cook Islands, he is known to have rented a land from the natives and lived off the island for several months, studying natural remedies, refining fishing and cooking techniques, writing his journal etcetera. In the UK, a group of people from this website, http://purposelymarooned.webs.com, is forming a team of maximum 10 persons to undertake a community based adventure. Finally, my chat buddy Jason (Jayhegard.com), stands up and says he’s soon leaving to the Florida Keys, in search of an uninhabited island. The region has more than 1000 island recorded to be deserted. The guy is departing as soon as February 2010 and he’s looking for a partner too! Check is page if you are interested.
I am today starting to work on the official DIP website, which will be hosted as a nosham subdomain. Having a dedicated site for the project could mean better development in planning and perhaps better support from third parties. Most importantly, there will be 2 new sections with stories and links to people who have already done this adventure and others who are going to do it. Letters, blogs, connections, photos, videos, press and a lot more to be coming…soon. Url will be: dip.nosham.com, add it to your favorites now.
Today I finally printed out a flyer for the deserted island project, and guess what, i’ve tested its impact on the masses, by distributing it in the streets of Hong Kong for 1 hour time. People thought I wanted to sell them something, but at last few of them stopped and curiously asked me lot of questions about my dream. Some were not directly interested but they said they will be spreading the news among their friends. The only problem is that this way of promoting my project it’s way too expensive and out of budget, supposing that I pay around 0.25 HK$ per flyer and willing to give away 1 million copies, that would cost me over 50.000 US dollars! So if someone is willing to sponsor this initiative by flying with a helicopter over the main streets of Hong kong (but after all any other big metropolis will do) and throwing a million copies of my flyer on people, please do let me know. Actually, if you are willing to volunteer in my project, you could contribute by just posting a copy of my flyer onto any board at your university or workplace or library, anything, or eventually by just passing the voice to your contacts…well thank you very much in advance if you can help me out of this hard mission…Ok I have made 2 different designs, you can download it here: flyer1 ; flyer2 (all are in .doc format).
The deserted island project has today appeared on one of the largest italian portal about moving abroad. http://www.voglioviverecosi.com is a website entirely dedicated to Italians who are tired of living in their country and are looking for alternative life styles. It has well populated forum with users who can give some awesome tips and hints. There are numerous and well explanatory sections on how to invest and live oversea. Thanks to Alessandro who has kindly promoted my project!
So here we are, I must confess I am a little bit excited to see the reaction of the public. I will first post it on youtube, then will send it to a friend of mine who works with some tv channels see if she can stream it on any satellite channel like travelTV or something like that. I will also prepare a set of flyers to start a sort of advertising campaign. Moreover this video will be available in 3 different formats: a .wmv low quality online version, a .mpeg DVD quality version and for the first time on nosham, a wonderful new 1080i HD format (only on request).
